Kertu Aer is a young double bassist. In jazz music, Kertu is captivated by spontaneity and surprise. She feels that jazz is the best way for her to express herself because in music based on improvisation, each performance is unique and interesting. There are so many variables that something extraordinary can always happen. Kertu enjoys the sound of Joe Sanders and Daryl Johnson. She is influenced by a wide range of music, from pop to New York-style contemporary jazz, classical music to free jazz. She finds most inspiration in books, nature, great films, and long walks.
Kertu Aer is currently studying at the Trondheim Academy of Music in Norway. She has previously studied at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy and in Sweden at Skurups Folkhögskola. Kertu plays in many different Scandinavian bands, including Sondre Moshagen Lightning Trio, When I Return, Science Fair, Mona Krogstad Quartet, DUBBELTRION, Cosmic Swing Orchestra, etc., performing at jazz festivals in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway.
